Now Deploying Elves in Your Area
Operation HoHoHo combines a simple philosophy with a network of helpful holiday “elves” to spread smiles to the children and families of the Ronald McDonald House. Participation is easy: we work with a handful of organizations to set up drop off centers or help arrange pick-ups for anyone who has items to donate.
Whether you are part of an organization or you’re flying a solo sled, we welcome anyone who wants to help collect unwrapped gifts. We can arrange for pick-up or drop-off, and we have flyers and additional media available to help you spread the word.
We accept unwrapped gifts for children between the ages of 2 and 16. Any new gift that fits your budget is perfect; through the years, we have received everything from board games to bicycles!
Ronald McDonald House knows that families are stronger when they are together. Being with family helps sick children heal faster and cope better. While Ronald McDonald House Charities may not be able to make medicine taste better or take away painful treatments, they help lessen the burden and ensure more than 4 million families a year have the stability and resources they need to keep their children healthy and happy.
Operation HoHoHo began in 1998 on a simple whim. With a few extra toys in hand, Operation HoHoHo’s Santa Claus stopped by the Long Branch Ronald McDonald House on Christmas Eve on the off-chance that they might need some spare joy. The staff, patients, and families were elated! Since then, Santa and his elves have ensured that each child patient and all of their siblings receive gifts during the holiday season – relieving some stress for their families during a difficult time.
Samuel Shazam: One Elf’s Story
Our little yellow friend Samuel Shazam loves to get into festive shenanigans, and when he heard about Operation HoHoHo, he was all in! He’s created a short video highlighting his experience as an Operation HoHoHo elf in hopes that you’ll join us this year.
If it wasn’t for all of our wonderful elves and supporters each year, Operation HoHoHo wouldn’t be able to provide this amazing service to families who deserve it. Each year we are amazed at the support and dedication that you all continue to show, and we are so grateful to everyone who shares their joy this holiday season.

How can I participate in Operation HoHoHo?
Operation HoHoHo is happy to take individual donations, but if you’re thinking bigger – here’s a few suggestions:
- Host a party and request unwrapped toys instead of gifts
- Ask coworkers to join in! Keep a drop-off box in the office
- Request assistance from school organizations or community groups
We have pre-made materials for sharing across the site, but we can also help you create flyers, videos and emails to help encourage both staff and your customers to participate in Operation HoHoHo. Just reach out and let us know how we can help!
